The Catarrhal Chld

چکیده

The clinical picture of the catarrhal child is one which is unfortunately too well known to need minute description, although careful consideration of the disease process is an essential if thWere is to be any advance in our therapeutic efforts to relieve or cure the child of its symptoms. Up to date, therapy has been disjointed, haphazard and not too successful although it is agreed by many clinicians that the child may be lucky enough to grow out of the catarrhal state as puberty approaches. But many of these children carry their catarrhal condition with them all through life. No follow-up records, however, have been made of those children who apparently recover spontaneously and it is believed, based on very careful adult history taking, that there is a great tendency for them to return to their catarrhal state later in adult life, even after a period of apparent quiesence of upwards of fifteen years. Be that as it may, it does not alter the significant fact that the rational therapeutic approach to the catarrhal child is at present inadequate. Expectorants; with or without belladonna, sedative linctuses, tonsillectomy, adequate or excessive dosage of vitamins, change of air, open-air schools, courses of sulpha drugs, or of vaccines or desensitisation therapy, ultra violet light -thiese and many other treatments are used with no real relationship the one to the other. Or worse, no therapeutic effort at all.

Cationic state distribution over the chlorophyll d-containing P(D1)/P(D2) pair in photosystem II.

Most of the chlorophyll (Chl) cofactors in photosystem II (PSII) from Acaryochloris marina are Chld, although a few Chla molecules are also present. To evaluate the possibility that Chla may participate in the P(D1)/P(D2) Chl pair in PSII from A. marina, the P(D1)(•+)/P(D2)(•+) charge ratio was investigated using the PSII crystal structure analyzed at 1.9-Å resolution, while considering all pos...

chlD gene function in molybdate activation of nitrate reductase.

chlD mutants of Escherichia coli lack active nitrate reductase but form normal levels of this enzyme when the medium is supplemented with 10-3 M molybdate. When chlD mutants were grown in unsupplemented medium and then incubated with molybdate in the presence of chloramphenicol, they formed about 5% the normal level of nitrate reductase. Some chlD mutants or the wild type grown in medium supple...

Nanomechanical and Thermophoretic Analyses of the Nucleotide-Dependent Interactions between the AAA+ Subunits of Magnesium Chelatase

In chlorophyll biosynthesis, the magnesium chelatase enzyme complex catalyzes the insertion of a Mg(2+) ion into protoporphyrin IX. Prior to this event, two of the three subunits, the AAA(+) proteins ChlI and ChlD, form a ChlID-MgATP complex. We used microscale thermophoresis to directly determine dissociation constants for the I-D subunits from Synechocystis, and to show that the formation of ...
